Brain Dump: clear the chaos of the mind, make space for, well, life (video)

Hey sweet love!

I am really excited to share this video with you, because it’s crude, playful, and one of the MOST USEFUL things I do for my very active mind! I call it a Brain Dump and I explain it all in the video!!!!! I am using this exercise on the road almost every time I sit down to do any work, sometimes multiple times a day to get clear.

Sometimes the mind gets so filled with things that we can’t sort any of them out. At times all I can hear is a rotating to do list. Other times, all I can hear are days old regrets or relationship snafus I want to make amends on but with which I’m dragging my feet.

There are so many things that we “keep track of” inside our minds that just become clutter. The Brain Dump practice helps me really see what I am trying to navigate. It’s all about the holistic approach here, not just listing the to-dos that need to be done, but also writing down the emotional, spiritual, and creative swirling.

In short — take a stack of papers and the mission is to put whatever goes through your mind into written form so as to ease the internal running amuck and anxiety.

Lots of love and one song dance parties,
Sophia

If you need a more emotional quiet and moving gentle tune try this: You Don’t Have To Be Afraid by Kaki King

Spring Medicine Kit

Spring is the time of powerful emergence, and emergence comes with one constant: Change. My sage mother, Grace Perkins, taught me the mantra, “Change is correct and desirable.” Now let’s be clear.  We may not already believe that’s true.  We work with a mantra because we need to commit to inviting a new idea into our lives.  Repeating that mantra is how we integrate the idea into our actions and ourselves.

Change comes with fear because all fear is the fear of death (see #34 of 50 things that help me heal post), and all death is the death of ego.  True transformation means we are no longer who we were.  ¡Deep Breath!  Again.  Another one.  “Change is correct and desirable.”  Remember?  Smiling….. can really help, as can tears, so whatever rises probably has potential for helping you through.

My teacher Tami Kent (the Wild Feminine one) says the antidote to fear is breath.  My mother says it’s joy.  I say it’s the full inhabitance of life, which happens through repeated inhale and exhale and creates joy.  My understanding affirms both Tami’s and my mother’s wisdom.

Today I am offering you a recorded meditation of an expanded visualization my teacher Anastasia Netri did with me.  I have done it with every single one of my clients and classes, and I think it’s definitely time to share it with you all.  I am giving you this meditation to help ease and address the fear part…  Leading to RELIEF, which may lead to breath…. and joy!

Meditation can be downloaded here.

I am also giving you the song “Peace Now” – because having a song as a balm can be very helpful with the fear voices, and this one serves me very well. I have two versions of it.  They are both still rough cuts of medicine songs, but I hope they will serve you.
*It was sung at my wedding by a hundred people as a blessing on Kim and me, and it was so beautiful.  :)*

Peace Now

Peace Now (Solo)

Lyrics:

Peace now peace
I find safety in trust now
Peace now peace
I find worthiness in existing now
Peace now peace
I find love in faith now
Peace now peace
I stand with all who stand with me now
Peace now peace
We honor all that came before now
Peace now peace
We choose freedom now
Peace now peace
Peace now peace
We choose peace now
Peace now peace
Peace now peace

Medicine Song – Moon Goddess’ Skirt

Hi Sweet Spirit,

Spring has shown its face to me today in Philly!

Here’s the question of the week, are you willing to change your habitual choices so you can you be who you want to be?

It’s something I have been asking myself, as I prepare for the next big round of changes in my life. Am I really willing to let go of my old habitual ways of being so I can have the life I want?

Yes.

Spring is here, we plant all these intentions, ask for healing, look for insight, and then the time comes for change. Are you willing? I ask myself my clients this question out loud, and then answer out loud. Try it on. Are you willing? _______. Making the decision is the hardest part. Fear/excitement and grief just come with change, doesn’t mean the change is wrong or bad, its just part of the deal. To really change we have to let go of what we know, that’s the ultimate risk and is what creates ultimate possibility. Then we just see what happens!

Here’s a song for the tender part, its a rocking, resting, lullaby for healing. Enjoy!

The song came during a session using the phrase my mother has shared with me and her yoga students for years “imagine you are being rocked in the hem of the moon goddess’s skirt,” and a tune that came in rocking and rocking and rocking. It’s a sweet lullaby inviting deep rest.

Moon Goddess’s Skirt

You are being rocked in the hem of the moon goddesses skirt as she sings, as she sings

Rest, rest.

You are loved, you are love.

Peace!

Medicine Song – Old Growth Maple

This is one of the songs that I sing for grounding. Grounding in its fullness can be described as being that feeling of being settled in my body instead of antsy, mind and thoughts seem to flow peacefully, I can feel my feet, and my favorite and most important part, full body breathing.

To you – being here! Here being on Earth.

LOVE!

Medicine Songs: Stardust

Medicine stories and/or songs are deeply important to me. It’s absolutley the medicine of the feminine. It works our spirit and our mind through the subtle unconscious and speask poetry to the conscious mind.

I sing a lot in my sessions, workshops and in my own healing. I have since I was a littel girl – sang and sang. I sing songs that soothe me and I make up songs that seems to rise out of me or come out of the eathers.

I have begun to keep these songs that rise, I call them medicine songs, and I am creating a lullabye and medicine album. I made a rouch cut of 5 of the songs. I am going to share with with you, one at a time. THey are not mastered, they are not perfect, they are recordings to share so you can learn them or listen to them to receive thier healing. They are kinda raw, but I treasuer them.

This week I am posting a song that came to me after a day of sitting next to an fire – releasing my attachment to my ancestor’s, and thusly, my line of burden, gried, and self hatred. A powerful moment in my life, and at the end, this song arose. I have a recording of the medicine story, but I am having technical difficulties. I’ll let you know when I get it up.

Sometimes I get the tune and hum and then words come along, or they come together, and then I sing them over and over and they settle into themselves, I record them on my phone, and if I forget the words or tunes (happens 50/50 that I remember them) i listen to them again. I send the recordings to my freinds who cal when their sad. I teach them to the women in 13 Circles, and I sing them to myself, clients, family, friends, and partner.

Blessings!
